THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM
The Middle Years (Years 8 and 9)

Year 8 Curriculum
All students’ study:
English, Mathematics, Science, (3x week), SOSE, LOTE and Health and Physical Education (2x week) are studied for the whole year.
Art, Music, Technology (woodwork, metalwork and graphics) and Home Economics (2x week) are studied for one semester.
There are a number of specialised classes that operate in Year 8. These are the Academic Rich Curriculum (ARC) classes, the Orchestra class, the Sports Excellence class and the Rugby League focus class.
The Year 8 curriculum is designed to develop foundation skills in the core subjects and to provide students with the opportunity to experience subjects that are available for selection for Year 9. The only subjects that students are not exposed to in Year 8 are Business, Speech and Drama and Dance.
Year 9 Curriculum
All students’ study:
English, Mathematics, Science, a Humanities subject (History, Geography or SOSE) and Health and Physical Education for the whole year.
Students chose three (3) other elective subjects from an extensive list. (see Years 9/10 Course Handbook)
Transition (Middle School to Senior School)
Year 10 Curriculum
All students’ study:
English and Mathematics for the whole year.
Students drop compulsory Health and Physical Education and one (1) subject of their own choice. Photography and Multimedia becomes available as a one (1) year course.
Year 10 is very much a transition year with numerous students commencing Senior studies during the year. A very comprehensive Senior course selection process is undertaken in second semester with students completing a Senior Education and Training Plan (SETP). All students are registered with the Queensland Studies Authority who track their progress through the Senior years or their destination should they leave their current School.
The Senior Years (Years 11 and 12)

All students’ study:
An English subject for two years.
Students choose from a variety of pathways depending on their abilities, interests and goals. Over forty (40) different subjects are available for selection from which students must choose six (6). (see Senior Course Handbook) Many students also choose to accept work placement in the form of work experience or a traineeship. Our Industry Liaison Officer facilitates these placements.
