Welcome to the Multimedia & Visual Arts Department at Coombabah State High School. The department offers a range of subjects that explore fine art and craft, multimedia and traditional darkroom practices.
Students are given the opportunity to display their work at galleries, community spaces and at school. Our department encourages students to enter competitions and involve themselves in extra curricular community projects such as murals and set design for our musicals.
Year 8 Most students complete one semester of visual art. They are
exposed to a wide variety of fine art media which include:
Drawing
Painting
Printmaking
Mixed Media
Sculpture
Ceramics
Digital Art
Art History.
Year 9 Students can choose from three strands of Visual Arts:
Art (fine art and history)
Practical Art (fine art and craft)
Photography & Multimedia (a combination of
darkroom photographic practices and computer
generated art)
Media Studies focuses on the mass media and explores issues such as propaganda and television genres. Art, PAM and Media Studies, study outcomes for level 5 and Practical Art- level 4.
Year 10 Students may continue to study their subject from Year 9.
Year 11 & 12 This department offers five subjects for study in senior:

Film & Television
VTE Certificate I & II in Visual Arts and
Contemporary Craft (PIM & VAS)
Certificate I in Media/ Certificate II
in Multimedia (MMS)
Photo Imaging Studies (PIM) combines traditional black and white photographic practices, multimedia, graphic design and computer generated art. Visual Art Studies (VAS) exposes students to a range of fine art and craft experiences. Multimedia Studies (MMS) offers multimedia components of graphics, sound, video and animation.
