Welcome to the English Department at Coombabah State High School.

Our department endeavours to provide a broad content base and a diverse range of learning experiences. Generally speaking, we aim to involve our students in a selection of cultural and linguistic activities which will help them to develop skills that will enhance both their academic careers and their day-to-day lives.

Year 8 Students are introduced to the concepts associated with speaking, listening, reading and writing critically, creatively and informatively for a range of audiences.

Year 9
Students further develop their knowledge and understanding of critical literacy and are introduced to some basic terms associated with its use in a range of contexts.

Year 10
The third year of the English course sees the students prepare for more complex concepts and terminology related to the Senior English course and extends their knowledge and understanding of the language for a variety of purposes and audiences.

Year 11 & 12
Students may choose from Authority and Authority-Registered subjects. All courses are of two years’ duration.
