Another part of the Arts that is fast expanding at Coombabah SHS is the Film, Television and New Media subject offerings. Students from as early on as Year 9 can study this subject. In Year 9 and 10 students can choose Media Studies which focuses on units such as photography, sitcoms, propaganda, newspapers and current affairs. Along with analysing these forms and genres, students have a hands on approach to the subject and create different forms of Media (whether it be a newspaper, current affairs program, a movie, or photograph). In Years 11 and 12 students have two choices. They can either choose the OP subject on Film, Television and New Media or the Certificate I and II course in Creative Industries (Media) called Movie Making. FTV- OP Focus This course offers students a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the role the ‘visual media’ play in their lives. It achieves this though a variety of analytical, research and production activities. Students are given opportunites to design, produce and critically analyse a range of media texts, including video clips, documentaries, mainstream narrative features, television programs and independent and international film and television texts. Film, Television and New Media can be exciting, fun and reqarding. It is also demanding, challenging and requires commitment for group and individual work. Movie Making (Cert I and II in Creative Industries- Media) This subject has less of an academic focus and more of a technical hands-on approach through which students will gain cometncies and perform duties in areas such as assisting in a basic camera shoot, performing basic vision and sound editing, design processes subh as stroyboards and pitching ideas. Along with industry knowledge, students will complete an instructional video and movie trailers where they will work in groups under supervision. Students enrolled in these subjects also have opportunities to be a part of the extra curricular activites provided the Arts deparment. (Extra Curricular Opportunities) |
