Learning Support’s role is to provide an appropriate level of education for students who have been identified as having literacy and numeracy learning difficulties. We offer courses which develop, reinforce and extend the functional literacy and numeracy skills required for living and employment in the modern world. We do this by utilising existing student files, school reports, NAPLAN scores and our own diagnostic testing to determine appropriate placements for targeted students; We develop programs and strategies which promote the effective inclusion of students with learning difficulties into mainstream classes wherever possible; We assist HOD’s with the development of modified core programs to cater for students with high support needs within their subject areas; We provide compensatory Transition classes in Years 8, 9 and 10 for any students still not coping with mainstream Maths and English; We advise and assist all teachers with the specific requirements necessary to enhance the overall literacy and numeracy achievement level of the school as a whole; We maintain and encourage a high level of contact with parents of supported students through after school information sessions, the school newsletter, by telephone and an open-door policy. Parents are welcome to contact the Learning Support Co-ordinator, Mr Orevich, with their concerns.
