Music is a large part of Coombabah SHS with a dedicated staff to ensure your child is catered for within this department. In Year 8, students have the opportunity to be a part of the Year 8 Music Excellence class. Here students work as a class in an Orchestra setting, learning pieces to perform for various functions throughout the year. Music is also offered to Year 9 – 12 students as a subject for them to study throughout the year. In Year 9 and 10 Music (studied for the whole year) students develop compositional skill with the aid of computer composing programs and midi technology. Vocal music in two to four parts is used to develop music reading and aural skill as well as vocal technique and group work. Solo performance gradually moves to whole group ensemble as skills develop. In Senior Music, students explore the three dimensions of the course through Composing, Performing and Analysing. In Senior, students are encouraged to move towards their own creating style and this is demonstrated through the composing element of the course. In the Performing dimension, student interpret musical repertoire by playing an instrument, singing or conducting. Performing may also include solo or ensemble experiences. Students throughout the course will also deconstruct music as a way of evaluating repertoire from a variety of social and cultural contexts. Students enrolled in these subjects also have opportunities to be a part of the extra curricular activites provided the Arts deparment. (Extra Curricular Opportunities) |
