Welcome to the Physical Education Department at Coombabah State High School. Our department caters for a wide range of physical education subjects, sporting areas, and related interests. Our subject areas are Physical Education, Health and Physical Education, Sporting Excellence, Rugby League Excellence, Certificate I and II in Community Recreation and Certificate II in Sport (Career-oriented participation).

We are very fortunate to have such an experienced and passionate staff, willing to offer and commit to the ongoing programs, as well as the pursuit of student excellence and achievement in the various fields of specialisation. Coombabah has a well earned reputation for not only outstanding student achievements in all these fields, but also for ongoing staff development, aimed at best practice and student outcomes wherever possible.

Year 8 Students experience as many facets as possible within the scope of our department. They will encounter QCAR core elements of Health and Physical Education. The main focus is developing student’s knowledge and understanding of Health & Physical Education as well as providing a pathway for elective subjects available in year 9.

Year 9
Allows for more specific subject selection with allocations in Physical Education. They will encounter QCAR core elements of Health and Physical Education. The main focus is continuing developing student’s knowledge and understanding of Health & Physical Education as well as providing a pathway for elective subjects available in year 10.

Year 10
Students may continue to study elective subjects from year 9. Year 10 is designed to prepare students for senior physical education subjects with a OP or Career focus. Subjects available in Year 10 include; Health & Physical Education, Sport Excellence and Rugby league Excellence programs.

Year 11 & 12
Students may choose from a variety of options that best serve their individual needs. The 3 subjects available in senior schooling include:

OP Subject: Physical Education
Certificate Courses: Certificate I and II in Community Recreation
Certificate II in Sport (Career-oriented participation)

With regard to specialisation groups (Rugby League & Sports Excellence) intake is regulated by a selection process that is specific to each area. For more information please contact Our Head of Department on (07) 5552 3860.
