Coombabah State High School Offers Rugby League Excellence Programs For Years 8, 9, 10, 11 And 12. All students enrolled in the course must have exemplary discipline, behaviour, academic rigour, attendance and attitude. The Program has an education focus, coupled with a high discipline, to ensure all students graduate with an exceptional education and as a quality young man.
COMPETITIONS
For 2009 Coombabah have qualified all junior sides for the U/13 Steve Renouf, U/14 Michael Hancock and U/15 Kevin Walters Competitions. The Open side will compete in the Andrew Gee Competition, whilst the schools Seconds Open side will participate in the Titans Cup.
All other teams in the U13, U/14 and U/15 divisions play in the local Gold Coast Competition.
CANBERRA RAIDERS
Coombabah State High School are affiliated with the Canberra Raiders, and are very lucky to be closely working with Mark Tookey and Paul Brandey, Head Coach of Souths Logan who were Premieres in this year’s Queensland Cup.
STAFF
The Programs’ Head Coaches of Mr. Rod Pryor, Mr. Scott Marlow and Mr. Rod Wright have had ARL playing, coaching and strength and conditioning experience, as well as State schoolboy coaching positions, the experience of setting up and running Westfields Sports High in Sydney, coaching Regional sides to State titles and the luxury of working with past and present NRL coaches such as Bob Linder, David Waite and Tony Smith.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Thanks to great community support, and with the assistance of the Canberra Raiders, the school can offer financial assistance to students in the Program to cover school and Program fees. These scholarships are based on a whole school approach, encompassing curriculum, knowledge and understanding, discipline, uniform, attendance, interschool participation and Rugby League performance.
RISING STAR
Coombabah’s latest Rugby League talent is Edward Brimelow of Year 10. This year was an outstanding year for Edward, who was part of Runaway Bay’s U/15 Foundation Cup winning side. Coombabah High made the semi-finals of the Kevin Walters Cup and Edward was selected in the U/15 side. To finish off a great year, he has just signed a two year contract with the Parramatta Eels.
TRIALS
The Program plays numerous pre-season trials and hosts pre-season and post-season development trips to enable all program participants the opportunities to further developer their skill, knowledge and understanding of the game.
