Welcome to the Visual Arts Department at Coombabah SHS – a strand within the Arts department at our school. In 2009, 6 teachers will staff the visual Arts department across a wide variety of subjects to cater for the diverse needs of our students. Each subject has it’s own specific leanings and assessment that match the EQ syllabuses and requirements. These subjects cover contemporary arts area such as fine arts whilst others meet the contemporary demands of digital media and image manipulation. Students who have an interest in visual art purely as a hobby or personal extension are also well catered for. Student artwork is regularly display in a variety of locations within our school as well as the community. Our annual highlight is the very popular Synergy exhibition in term 4, which showcases excellence in visual arts across all year levels. Our local member, Peta-Kaye Croft, generously sponsors this exhibition. Year 11 & 12 – three subjects are offered and students can elect to study more than one art subject.
Year 9 & 10 - three subjects are offered and student can elect to study more than one subject. In year 10, students study the subject for two semesters, in year 9 students study Art for two semesters, Practical Art and PAM (digital art) are studied for one semester.
Year 8 Some students will complete one semester in visual art. During this course they will be introduced to some techniques and media through a range of skills. These are further developed during year 9. These classes are designed to be exciting and very hands on. Their artwork is regularly exhibited. More details about each of the above subjects can be found in the Junior and Senior subject handbooks or by contacting the school. Students enrolled in these subjects also have opportunities to be a part of the extra curricular activites provided the Arts deparment. (Extra Curricular Opportunities) |
