Welcome to the Performance Department at Coombabah State High School. Our department caters for a wide range of the arts, sporting areas, and related interests. Our subject areas are Physical Education, Sporting Excellence, Rugby League Development Program, Music Excellence (Orchestra), Dance and Drama. We are very fortunate to have such an experienced and passionate staff, willing to offer and commit to the ongoing programs, as well as the pursuit of student excellence and achievement in the various fields of specialisation. Coombabah has a well earned reputation for not only outstanding student achievements in all these fields, but also for ongoing staff development, aimed at best practice and student outcomes wherever possible. Year 8 Students experience as many facets as possible within the scope of our department. They will encounter core elements of Physical Education practice and theory, as well as Music and Drama. The main focus is transitional experiences for elective subjects available in year 9. Year 9 Allows for more specific subject selection with allocations in Physical Education, Dance, Music, and Drama being offered. Compulsory elements of Health and PE remain throughout year 9. Year 10 Students may continue to study elective subjects from year 9. In Physical Education some students are invited to integrate their timetable with senior classes to enhance their learning opportunities. Year 11 & 12 Students may choose from a variety of options that best serve their individual needs. Category A: Music Drama Physical Education Category B: Cert 2 Recreation Cert 1 Production NB* With regard to specialisation groups, (EG Orchestra, RLD & Sports Excellence) intake is regulated by a selection process that is specific to each area.
