Information Communication Technology |
Welcome to the Information Communication Technology Department at Coombabah State High School. The department encompasses the subject areas of ICT and Information Processing Technology. In these subjects, students look at how new computer technologies are shaping their lives, some of the implications of these technologies and what the future might hold. The fundamental skills they learn will set them on the path to industry or further education through TAFE or university.
| Year 9 - ICT |
The purpose of this subject is to provide students with a wide range of computer skills that will take them past familiar programs such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint and into the world of multimedia and programming.
ICT will be offered both as a one semester and a two semester subject.
When taken as a full year course, topics will include:
- Computer Games:
- create your own arcade-style game and look at the impact of video games on young people
- Robotics:
- build and program your own robots then compete in challenges
- Multimedia:
- learn the basics of raster and vector graphics, video and audio manipulation
- Animation:
- explore and create different styles of digital animation
- Programming:
- learn the basics of writing and testing your own computer program
- Extensive use is made of freeware and students are not required to purchase any software.

Year 10 - ICT
|
This is a full year subject. It incorporates a Certificate I in Information Technology. The purpose of this subject is to build on the skills learned in Year 9 and provide a foundation for subjects offered in Years 11 and 12. Students will learn foundation skills in Adobe CS4 software.
Topics include:
- Graphic Design with Photoshop and Illustrator
- Web Design with Dreamweaver
- Animation with Flash
- Gaming
- Programming

Year 11 & 12 - ICT
|
This subject focuses on developing skills in multimedia with a particular emphasis on exploring Adobe software.
Whilst it covers some skills with audio and PowerPoint, students concentrate on building advanced skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash.
This a Category B subject studied under the Creative Arts SAS.
Students are not required to purchase any software to complete this course.

Year 11 & 12 - IPT
|
This is a Category A subject.
Its focus is on the study of software development and computer systems. Students will gain some expertise and skills in the design, development and evaluation of computer programs that solve practical problems. It also introduces a model to describe how information and intelligent systems can be designed.
Students also look at how people interact with computers. What are the different kinds of interfaces? What makes for good design and ease of use when developing software?
The aim to help students develop an appreciation and understanding of the impact that information technology has on themselves and communities worldwide.
