English

Our department endeavours to provide a broad content base and a diverse range of learning experiences. Generally speaking, we aim to involve our students in a selection of cultural and linguistic activities which will help them to develop skills that will enhance both their academic careers and their day-to-day lives.

Year 7
We have much pleasure in welcoming Year 7 to their first year of high school. They will participate in a range of activities related to the Australian Curriculum and be involved in using technology, collaborative learning and  improving their literacy skills.

Year 8
In accordance with the Australian Curriculum, students are introduced to a range of tasks requiring critical thinking and individual and cooperative effort, and the extensive use of technology and audiovisual resources. There is also a focus on the portrayal of teenagers, moral and ethical issues and the role of indigenous culture and texts.

Year 9

In the third year of high school, students become more aware of themselves as Australian and global citizens. They build on the knowledge of the previous year,  studying historical and information texts, speculative fiction, poetry and a novel.

Year 10
In Year 10, students investigate satire, social issues and current events. They also study a novel, poetry, film and Shakespearian drama.

Year 11 and 12
Students select from OP English and English Communication, depending on whether they want an academic or career-focused curriculum. Both courses are of two years duration.
