Attendance

Student Absent from School Contact us using ONE of the methods above. Please specify the reason (sick, family reasons, etc.). Without a reason, the absence is recorded as "Unjustified". Specify if the student has a contagious illness.
Late Arrival Parents must advise CSHS of expected late arrivals. Students without prior notice will receive lunch detention. Students must sign in at Student Services first - do not go directly to class.
Early Leave Email or SMS with student name, reason, and date before school starts. Alternatively, provide a signed note to Student Services or use QParents.
Bus Late Arrival Report to Student Services and cite the bus number. Parents will still receive an SMS to verify the late bus arrival as per Education Queensland policy.
Extended Absence (Planned) Contact Year Level Dean to organise work completion during absence. Students absent for 11 or more days may be eligible for an exemption.
Absent from a Class Student to follow up with class teacher on return for any work missed due to illness or family reasons.
Late for a Class Bring a note from the previous teacher or staff member. Student Services cannot issue a late pass without prior Dean approval.

Important Attendance Notes

  • Parents should arrange for leave passes prior to collecting students by calling Student Services.
  • Students cannot be easily contacted in class and require a leave pass before teachers will allow them to leave
  • Do not rely on school SMS notifications to update attendance
  • Senior students must maintain 90% attendance to avoid Cancellation of Enrolment process
  • Repeated student truancy results in Cancellation of Enrolment process commencing

Check Attendance Easily

You can check your child's attendance (including class attendance) via the QParents app. The Attendance menu shows any unexplained absences.

Transport

Bicycles & Scooters

Riding to school No riding on school grounds. Secure bikes/scooters in the designated compound. The school takes no responsibility for damage or loss outside the enclosure.

Code of Conduct Students not following the bus travel code of conduct may be banned from using the service. Bus passes and information are available in quick links.

Student Drivers

Driving to School Licensed students may drive to school and bring siblings. Park in the public car park below Industrial Technology and Design building.

Emergency Procedures

Fire or Evacuation Emergency Signal: Continual series of short siren bursts
Action: Exit to assigned evacuation areas immediately
External Danger (Lockdown) Signal: Siren (similar to truck reversing)
Action: Remain in classroom, lock all doors and windows. If during break, move to nearest room. School leaders will advise when students can leave.

Health & First Aid

When Injured or Feeling Unwell

During Class Advise teacher and request to go to Administration Office. Bring a note from the teacher.
During Breaks Go directly to Administration Office during morning tea or lunch break.
Playground Injury Go directly to Administration Office or send someone for assistance.

Medication at School

Taking Medication Complete official medication form and lodge at Administration Office before bringing medication to school.

Lost Property

Lost Items Mark all items with owner's name. Report missing items to the Uniform Shop or check at Administration Office.

Student Support

Guidance & Counselling

Junior Students (Years 7, 8, 9) Make appointments via Student Services in C Block before school or during break times only.
Senior Students (Years 10, 11, 12) Make appointments via Senior Hub behind the Library before school or during break times only.

We encourage parents to proactively engage with teachers and form a support network for each child.

Parents & Citizens Association

Meeting Schedule Meetings on Thursdays 2:00-3:00 PM in Staff Common Room. Meetings advertised on Facebook. All welcome.
Meetings times are subject to change.

Mobile Devices

Mobile Phone Policy

Mobile phones must be out of sight from first bell to last bell of the school day.

Permitted Use Students may request to use phones at Student Services to call home, or use them to pay at the canteen in designated areas only. Phones must be switched off and out of sight at all other times.
Non-Compliance Ongoing non-compliance will be managed as per the Student Code of Conduct.
Risk & Responsibility Phones brought to school entirely at student's own risk.

Legal Requirements - Privacy

To avoid breaching the Invasion of Privacy Act, students are NOT permitted to record or photograph other students or staff. Any student who photographs or shoots footage of students in school uniform and posts images/footage online will face serious consequences from the School and/or police action.

Visitors & Services

Visitor Procedures

Signing In All visitors must report to Administration Office to sign in and collect a pass. It is illegal for parents/visitors to be on school grounds without following this procedure.
School Access The only gate open during school hours is at Administration.

Personal Property

Student Responsibility All personal property is the responsibility of individual students. Large sums of money should be handed to Administration Office for safekeeping.

Parents/Caregivers must advise CSHS of unavoidable uniform issues via the contact methods below prior to the start of school:

Uniform Enforcement

Where possible, students are required to rectify uniform issues immediately, or the Parent/Guardian may be asked to collect the student for inappropriate dress code violations.

Sport

Interschool Sport Days Sport cluster days occur on five Tuesdays in first semester for Years 7-10.

Assessment Schedules Available through OneSchool and QParents. Check these platforms regularly for updates and important dates.
