Preparing for senior secondary pathways
The transition from Year 10 to Year 11 is a significant milestone in every student's educational journey. At Coombabah State High School, we provide comprehensive support to ensure students make informed decisions about their senior secondary pathway.
As part of the Year 10 to Year 11 transition, students participate in a Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan interview. In Term 2, students complete a career investigation and the Short Course in Career Education through their Year 10 Humanities class. This learning helps them explore their strengths, interests, and goals, and prepares them to make informed decisions about senior subject pathways.
The process culminates in a one-on-one SET Plan interview with a teacher or senior staff member, where students map out their pathway for Years 11 and 12 and beyond. Parents/carers are encouraged to attend, ensuring a shared understanding of each student's future direction.
A Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan is a personalised planning tool that helps students identify their goals and create a pathway to achieve them. It considers academic strengths, career aspirations, and post-school options including tertiary study, vocational training, and employment.
Students complete career exploration activities in Year 10 Humanities class, researching career pathways and tertiary options.
Students develop skills in self-reflection, goal setting, and understanding subject prerequisites for their desired pathways.
Using the Subject Selection Guide, students choose their Year 11 and 12 subjects based on their goals and interests.
One-on-one interview with teacher or senior staff member to finalise subject selections and pathway planning. Parents/carers encouraged to attend.
